The OBRA MDS 3.0 Comprehensive assessment includes the completion of the MDS, the CAA process, and care planning. Comprehensive assessments include Admission, Annual, Significant Change is Status Assessment, and Significant Correction of a Prior Comprehensive Assessment. An OBRA Comprehensive assessment is completed when:

A resident is a new admission into a Skilled Nursing Facility

Annually within 366 days from prior comprehensive MDS

When a significant change in a resident’s status has occurred

When a significant correction in a prior comprehensive assessment is required
ARD
- Admission: ARD (item A2300) must be set no later than day 14, counting the date of admission as day 1
- Annual: ARD (item A2300) must be set within 366 days after the ARD of the previous OBRA comprehensive and within 92 days since the ARD of the previous OBRA Quarterly assessment
- Significant Change in Status: ARD must be less than or equal to 14 days after the IDT’s determination that the criteria for an SCSA are met

Significant Correction in Prior Comprehensive Assessment: ARD must be within 14 days after the determination that a significant error in the prior comprehensive assessment occurred
This item set is used whether the OBRA Comprehensive assessment is standalone or combined with any other assessment (PPS assessment and/or Discharge assessment).
